Tour Eiffel : Monument métallique érigé par G. Eiffel sur le Champ-de-Mars, à Paris, pour l'Exposition universelle de 1889. Clou de l'Exposition, la tour Eiffel devait connaître un succès durable, malgré les critiques qui s'élevèrent dans le monde des lettres et des arts lorsque fut décidée son édification. La Tour Eiffel a servi, outre les expériences d'Eiffel et outre son rôle de station météorologique, pour les premiers essais de radio (E. Ducretet, 1898 ; G. Ferrié, 1903-1908) et de télévision (E. Belin, 1925). Radio-Tour-Eiffel a émis régulièrement à partir de 1921 ; et la télévision depuis 1957. Inscrite à l'inventaire des monuments historiques en 1964, la tour Eiffel appartient à la Ville de Paris. Elle est gérée, depuis 1980, par une Société d'exploitation. La Tour Eiffel accueille chaque année plus de 6 millions de visiteurs.
